Collaboration

The Pali Translation Project will be a collaboration between the Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies and SuttaCentral. SuttaCentral is the most important online resource for accessing the Pali canon, and contains translations of almost the entire Pali canon.

The SuttaCentral website makes it easy to navigate the contents of the Pali canon.

Texts of the Pali canon can be read either in translation or the original Pali, or side by side. The work of the Pali Translation project will appear in this form, which will open up the study of the Pali canon and their commentaries.

The Bilara translation app

SuttaCentral has developed its own translation app specifically for canonical Buddhist texts: Bilara is a Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) webapp to help translate Buddhist scripture.

Bilara allows multiple persons to work on the same text, and shows all previous translations of passages which occur more than once in the Pali corpus. These features will facilitate the collaborative nature of the project, and minimize the problem of scholars working in isolation from each other.
